Far East gets Laochang extension

More time: Far East has received approval to extend the exploration period for the Laochang Block

Houston-based Far East Energy has received approval to extend the exploration period of its production sharing contract covering the Laochang Block in China’s Yunnan Province.

Far East said the Ministry of Commerce had approved the modification agreement covering the coalbed methane project which extends the exploration period until 31 December, 2013.

Under the terms of the agreement between Far East and China United Coalbed Methane (CUCBM), Far East will relinquish the Enhong Block while retaining the right to continue to explore the 483 square kilometre Laochang Block, which it considers to hold greater potential.
