Ranhill wins Indonesian block

Singapore-registered Ranhill Jambi, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Ranhill Energy, has been awarded the Batu Gajah production sharing contract in South Sumatra.

The block consists of four areas, West, East, Betara and Sogo. Seven prospects with potential reserves of up to 195 million barrels of oil equivalent have been identified during a study carried out by Ranhill and Indonesian upstream authority BP Migas.

Batu Gajah also contains existing oil and gas pipeline infrastructure, making it more economical to develop small and marginal fields.

Ranhill said that enough existing seismic and prospects for it to carry out exploration drilling in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Total capital and investment outlay is expected to be about $30 million over three years.
