Statoil finds up to 200m barrels at Mizzen

Mizzen: Statoil, led by Helge Lund, says prospect off Canada holds between 100 million and 200 million boe

Norwegian giant Statoil said it has found between 100 million and 200 million recoverable barrels of oil equivalent at its Mizzen discovery in the Flemish Pass basin offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

"We are now assessing the discovery to determine how and when it can be economically developed," Erik Finnstrom, senior vice president of Statoil's Exploration North America, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Statoil drilled an appraisal well at Mizzen in late 2011. Wednesday's announcement was the company's first indication of that well's results.

"Our focus is to define the resource potential of the Flemish Pass basin by continuing to test high-impact oil prospects on our land holdings and to continue to build this area as a core exploration region for the company," Finnstrom…
