Retiring: David Wood steps down as Murphy Oil CEO

US explorer Murphy Oil said late on Wednesday that its chief executive, David Wood, is retiring and would be replaced by Steve Cosse, effective immediately.

Cosse will take over as the company's president and chief executive, the Arkansas-headquartered company said in a statement.

The 55-year-old Wood, who will also resign from Murphy's board of directors, has been with the company for 17 years, and has served as chief executive since January 2009. He will stay on as a consultant for one year, the statement said.

Cosse has previously served as executive vice president and general counsel for Murphy. He has been with the company since 1991.
