Operators begin pulling workers on forecast

GOM forecast: Developing weather could escalate into stronger storm

US oil and gas companies have begun to evacuate staff and shut in production on forecasts that a storm could intensify and take a sweep at the Gulf Coast.

Reuters reported that BHP Billiton evacuated all workers from its platforms and shut in 170,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil output and 100 million cubic feet per day of natural gas production in preparation. BHP operates two platforms, Shenzi and Neptune.

Shell and Anadarko both said the companies would begin evacuating non-essential workers. Shell said it did not expect impacts to production.
