US extends comment period for frac rules

Extended: public will have 60 more days to comment on proposed fracking rules

The US Interior Department will allow more time for public comment on its proposed rules for hydraulic fracturing on federal land, but does not expect the extension to affect the timing of the finalised regulations.

The proposed rules, which mandate disclosures of the chemical make-up of frac fluid within 30 days after stimulation operations have commenced, were unveiled last month. A public comment period was set to close on 10 July. The extension will push that deadline back by 60 days.
