Gulf output cut, but TS Debby turns

Tropical weather: Operators prepare for disruptions, but storm turns eastward

US regulators said nearly 23% of US Gulf of Mexico oil and gas production had been halted on the threat of Tropical Storm Debby, even as the storm was expected to veer eastward toward the Alabama and Florida coasts.

In addition, 10.2% of platforms, a total of 61, had been evacuated due to the storm, as well as 13 rigs, or 18.6% of those operating, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters on Saturday had said the storm was slated to cut a slow, wet westward path toward Texas through the heart of the Gulf's offshore oil patch, according to the National Hurricane Center.

But by late Sunday, Debby's path had made a roundabout turn and was instead expected to dump as much as 20 inches of rain…
