Athena fails to fire on all cylinders

Stuttering start: only three of the four production wells at the Athena field are flowing according to operator Ithaca Energy

Ithaca Energy suspects a blockage to be the cause behind one of the production wells on the Athena field development in the North Sea failing to flow oil.

In an operations update on Monday, Ithaca revealed only three of the four production wells at the field were flowing oil as a result of a suspected downhole restriction in one of the wells.

It said tests had revealed there to be no issues with well integrity or the performance of the reservoir in the area of the field being drained by the well.
