Statoil gets Geitungen go-ahead

Drill plans: Statoil to spud exploration probe at Geitungen prospect

Statoil has been given the go-ahead from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an exploration well at the Geitungen prospect near the giant Johan Sverdrup field.

The Ocean Vanguard is to drill the 16/2-12 well in production licence 265 once it has finished another probe targeting the Karpe and Svarthaa prospects in production licence 552.

The 16/2-12 well will be drilled in about 115 metres of water on a structure in the Draupne formation lying between Espevaer and Aldous Major North, where an earlier probe came up dry.

Drilling is expected to start at the end of this month and last about 39 days.
