Keppel lands contract for heavy lifter

By Upstream staff

Keppel Verolme, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore’s Keppel Offshore & Marine, has won a €140 million ($184.6 million) contract from Norway’s MPU Enterprise to build a semi-submersible heavy lifter.

Keppel Verolme will execute the marine outfitting works and build the accommodation block as well as fabricate and carry out steelwork and install equipment for lifting topsides and jackets. It will also lease its facilities for the construction of the concrete substructure by the owner’s appointed civil contractor.

The platform, which will be used for the decommissioning of offshore structures, is expected to be completed by early 2009.
