NWS Venture wins two supply extensions

By Upstream staff

Australia’s North West Shelf Venture has signed two heads of agreements with Japanese buyers of liquefied natural gas to extend their existing contracts.

Osaka Gas extended its contract to buy 500,000 tonnes of LNG per annum by six years while Tokyo Electric Power signed a deal to continue buying 300,000 tpa for eight years. Both agreements will start in April 2009.

The six equal partners in the Venture are operator Woodside, BHP Billiton, BP, Chevron, Shell, and Japan Australia LNG (MiMi).

China's CNOOC is also a member but does not have any interests in the two agreements.
