Woodside shuts in Cossack fields

By Upstream staff

Woodside Petroleum, operator of the North West Shelf Venture off Western Australia, has shut in production at the Cossack Pioneer oilfields as Cyclone Isobel approaches the area.

Woodside spokesman said production had been shut in at the Cossack Pioneer floating storage, production and offloading vessel, Reuters reported.

The field usually produces about 106,000 barrels of oil per day.

Fellow Australian producer Santos shut in its 55,000 bpd Mutineer-Exeter oilfield, also off Australia's north-west coast, yesterday as Isobel headed for the region, Bloomberg reported.

The storm was reported to be 325 kilometres north of Port Hedland, moving south at 22 kilometres per hour and packing winds up to 120 kilometres per hour.
