Peru bumps energy output
Peru produced 3.9% more oil last year compared with 2005, while natural gas output increased by 17%, state-run Perupetro said today.
The Andean country pumped an average of 115,581 barrels per day of crude last year and 4.9 million cubic metres per day of natural gas, the company said in a statement.
Block 88-Camisea, operated by Argentina's Pluspetrol, was the biggest producing field withoutput of 34,682 bpd of oil and 2.9 million cubic metres of gas per day.
Peru hopes to become a net oil exporter with the start of production and exports from Block 67 in the Amazon, expected in 2010. The $1 billion project will produce up to 100,000 bpd, Reuters reported.
