Aussie shelf players ready to reopen taps

By Upstream staff

Woodside Petroleum said it expected its Legendre field off north-west Australia to resume pumping on Saturday after being forced to halt production as Cyclone Isobel passed through the area.

Woodside spokesman Tony Johnson told Asia Pulse the company was moving staff back to the Ocean Legend production platform as the hurricane weakened after making landfall in Western Australia.

Johnson said the Karratha Spirit, a floating storage and offloading vessel at the field, should tie back into production within the next two days.

The 7000-barrel-per-day field, a joint venture between Australian players Woodside and Santos and the US's Apache, lies about 100 kilometres north of Dampier on Australia's north-west shelf.

Also today, Santos said it expected production at its Mutineer-Exeter project to resume tomorrow. The field, on the Carnavon basin, produces about 55,000 barrels of oil per day.
