SPC to abandon Indonesian well

Abandoned: SPC will plug and abandon the Naga Selatan-1 well after it was deemed potential accumulations in the well did not warrant further evaluation

PetroChina subsidiary Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC)has hit hydrocarbons in the Naga Selatan-1 well, in Indonesia, but will plug and abandon the well due to poor hole conditions.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 8300 feet and gas shows were recorded throughout the 8.5 inch hole section, with hydrocarbons interpreted to be potentially present in a number of sandstone units.

However, joint venture partner Cue Energy Resources said poor hole conditions had prevented further evaluation of the fluid content of the intervals with wireline tools.

It added the potential accumulations did not currently warrant running casing or drillstem testing and the well will now be plugged and abandoned, marking the end of the current drilling campaign…
