Drilling failure: for Faroe at Clapton

Faroe Petroleum has failed to deliver a discovery with its first operated exploration well off Norway drilled at the Clapton prospect in the southern North Sea.

The British explorer was targeting hydrocarbons in the Shetland Group chalk reservoir at the high-impact prospect in Production Licence 440S, located in a prolific region  about five kilometres east of the Eldfisk East field and 10 kilometres north of Valhall.

The 2/8-18S well, drilled by jack-up Maersk Guardian, hit the target after being drilled to a depth of 2619 metres but the reservoir properties proved poorer than expected, partner Lundin Petroleum said in a statement.
