Irish independent Providence Resources has been forced to put the brakes on a planned ramp-up of production at its Singleton oilfield onshore UK after suspending drilling of a development well due to technical problems.

The operator has suffered repeated equipment failures and downhole mechanical issues with drilling of the Singleton X12 probe, although it has struck a hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir interval at the field in the Weald basin.

The extra drilling time required meant the well had to be put on hold given the constraints of planning consents and rig availability, the company said in a statement.

As a result of the suspension, Providence must delay planned production increases this year at Singleton while it troubleshoots the well issues, although it said current field output of 750 barrels of oil equivalent per day would not be affected.
