Island orders PSVs at STX

Norwegian signs up for two units in deal worth around $84 million.

The orders from Norwegian shipowners for newbuild platform supply vessels (PSV) is stacking up with Island Offshore the latest to pen a brace at STX OSV.

Ulsteinvik-based Island has signed up for the pair of Rolls-Royce UT 717 CD units at STX’s Brevik yard in a deal worth around Nkr 500 million ($84.11 million).

Deliveries are slated for the fourth quarter of 2013 and the second quarter of 2014. There was no mention from STX of any optional units.

The hulls of the 3800-deadweight-tonne units will be constructed in STX’s Braila facility in Romania.
