In the works: CIMC Raffles begins construction of COSL semi-submersible

CIMC Raffles has commenced work on a semi-submsersible drilling rig, the COSL Prospector, for China Oilfield Services at its Yantai City yard in China’s Shandong province.

The semi-sub is the fourth rig of its kind ordered by COSL, which is commissioning the semi-sub without a firm contract after fulfilling a three-rig deal with Statoil in April.

The dynamically-positioned rig, being fitted to Norwegian certification standards, is due for delivery in the second half of 2014.

The COSLProspector is being equipped to drill in a maximum operational water depth of 1500 metres, deeper than its predecessors, and can carry a greater load of 6000t on its variable deck, the drilling contractor said.

It will have a maximum drilling depth of 7600 metres.
