Approval: the APLNG partners have approved the construction of a second 4.5 million tpa train

The partners of the Australia Pacific liquefied natural gas (APLNG) project in Queensland have approved a final investment decision on a second train for the A$23 billion (US$23.7 billion) project.

The approval of a second train will take the total capacity of the project to 9 million tonnes per annum and also paves the way for China’s Sinopec to increase its holding in APLNG from 15% to 25%, while Australia’s Origin Energy and US major ConocoPhillips will each see their stakes reduced to 37.5%.

The first 4.5 million tpa train was sanctioned in July last year, with first exports scheduled for mid-2015, while exports from the second train are expected to commence in early 2016.
