Rig count: US tally gained by six this week

The count of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US rose by six this week to 1965, according to the latest Friday tally from Houston-based service firm Baker Hughes.

The number of units drilling for oil fell by two to a total of 1419, while the count drilling for gas rose by eight to 542.

North Dakota saw the largest change in its rig count, adding four units over the week for a total of 196. Pennsylvania added three for a total of 78.

Colorado, Oklahoma and West Virginia each added one rig for counts of 69, 201 and 27 respectively.

The total in Texas dropped by two units to 927. Alaska, Arkansas and New Mexico each lost one rig for totals of seven, 17 and 84 respectively.
