C&M wins Shell shutdown contract

By Upstream staff

Scottish contractor C&M Marines Services has been awarded a contract from Shell for its multi-purpose construction vessel Ice Maiden to support the shutdown of Gannet and Shearwater platforms in the North Sea.

The Ice Maiden, a 14,000 tonne Russian Class AAA ice-breaker, is currently in Atlantic Marine Shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, where C&M's Marine Services division is converting her into a construction vessel with accommodation for 400 people.

The vessel, formerly MV Paardeberg, was built for the Russian Navy in 1991.

C&M expect to complete the conversion in the next five months.
