Kazakh construction: Keppel to build jack-up at Aktau yard

Singapore’s Keppel and Kazakh contractor Ersai Caspian have been jointly awarded a $242 million contract to provide a newbuild jack-up for operations in the Caspian Sea.

The duo are to provide a KFELS B Class jack-up rig for for Teniz Burgylau, a subsidiary of KazMunaiGas, with delivery slated for the first quarter of 2015.

The two contractors will divide the work scope equally between them, with construction at the local yard of Keppel Offshore & Marine's Kazakh arm in Aktau City.

Nurlan Bekzhanov, general director of Teniz Burgylau, said the company aimed to step up its drilling operations with its first jack-up order.
