Aker nets fifth riser order from Atwood Oceanics

Joining up orders: Aker Solutions wins fifth Atwood Oceanics order for riser system

Norway’s Aker Solutions has won a fifth deep-water drilling riser system contract from driller Atwood Oceanics.

The subsea specialists did not disclose a value for the order of the drilling riser system known as CLIP, but previous orders of the same riser with Atwood Oceanics were made for around $50 million.

Aker Solutions senior vice president Tom Munkejord said that the CLIP riser’s key attribute was its faster connection and disconnection of the riser joints.

“The drilling riser can be disconnected and pulled out of the water in half the time it takes to remove a traditional riser, which saves the operator time and money," Munkejord said.
