Oil sands circled in Egypt

Egypt: A sidetrack well in Circle Oil's Al Amir SE field is now producing while drilling on Al Ola is expected shortly

UK-listed Circle Oil has revealed successful results from its exploration programme at the NW Gemsa concession in the Gulf of Suz basin, Egypt.

The Middle East and Africa-focused company’s development well AASE-12X, in the southern part of the Al Amir SE (AASE) field, reached a target depth of 10,200 feet before being sidetracked (for geological reasons).

The sidetracked well, AASE-12X ST1, then drilled to a total depth of 10,300 feet into the base Kareem.

Circle said the well encountered 15.5 feet of net pay in the Kareem Shagar sand, with oil-bearing sands present to the base of the reservoir.
