Weather clears for New Zealand well test

Mount Taranaki: Bad weather in New Zealand has delayed the start of Kea Petroleum's Puka-1 testing programme in the Taranaki basin

UK-listed Kea Petroleum has mobilised equipment to site to begin testing operations at the Puka-1 well in New Zealand’s onshore Taranaki basin.

The company said that recent bad weather had delayed preparatory works at the site.

“Over the past month in excess of 780 (millimetres) of rain has fallen in the Puka area, delaying preparatory civil works required for testing operations,” Kea stated.

The company said that recently improved weather conditions had now permitted the necessary access road upgrades to be completed and civil works to commence on site.

Kea expected the Puka-1 well’s initial flow period to start on or around 6 August and take about 30 days.
