Technip-NPCC awarded Upper Zakum role

Zakum work: Technip and NPCC have been awarded a contract covering the Upper Zakum development off Abu Dhabi

A consortium involving France’s Technip and UAE’s National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) has been awarded a contract for the Upper Zakum 750 field expansion project off Abu Dhabi.

The lump sum engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning and start-up contract was awarded by field operator Zakum Development Company (Zadco).

It covers 240 kilometres of subsea pipelines, 128 kilometres of subsea composite and fiber-optic cables and almost 30,000 tonnes of offshore structures including jackets, riser platforms, flare towers, bridges and island modules.

Thursday's announcement confirms an earlier report by Upstream the Technip-NPCC partnership had beaten rivals J Ray McDermott and Saipem for the award.
