Xcite Energy finance chief gets top job

Stepping down: Xcite Energy co-founder Richard Smith to retire

Xcite Energy chief financial officer Rupert Cole is to move up to the top job at the explorer in a set of changes prompted by the retirement of chief executive Richard Smith.

Cole, a founding member of the UK-registered explorer, is to retain responsibility for strategic financing after the switch. Chief financial officer since 2007, Cole previously served as programme management adviser to Halliburton subsidiary Granherne among other positions.

Smith also came to Xcite Energy from Granherne, where he was programme director.

Xcite Energy's exploration and development director and fellow founder Stephen Kew will become chief operating officer, while Andrew Fairclough will become corporate affairs director.
