Armour hits shale gas

Charging ahead: Armour Energy has hit a 138 metre gas charged zone in the Barney Creek shale formation

Brisbane-based Armour Energy has hit gas in a vertical well on its wholly-owned exploration permit 171 in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The Glyde-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 698 metres and intersected a 138 metre zone of highly carbonaceous, gas-charged Barney Creek shale before intersecting the Coxo Dolomite formation.

Armour said consistent background and peak gas readings were observed while drilling though the shale interval with the gas generally consisting of methane, ethane, propane, butane and pentane.

It added that carbon dioxide levels in the well were “negligible” and that no water had been encountered during drilling.
