Sinking the bit: Kulczyk at Makeevskoye

Polish explorer Kulczyk Oil Ventures has started drilling a new probe at its Makeevskoye field in Ukraine targeting untapped formations at greater depths.

The M-16 well will be the deepest drilled to date at the play, with a projected total depth of 3850 metres, as it tests multiple potential reservoir units and could “open up new opportunities for reserve and production growth” if successful, according to Kulczyk.

The upper part of the well will be an appraisal targeting a 3D-defined  structure in the Bashkirian and Upper Serpukhovian formations, while the lower section will be an exploration probe in the Lower Serpukhovian, and possibly Visean, structures.
