Vessel arrives to inspect PNG terminal

Lake Kutubu: Nearly all output from Papua New Guinea’s Kutubu, Moran, Gobe and SE Mananda oil fields have been suspended after an incident at the Kumul offloading terminal

A specialist vessel has arrived at the Kumul offloading terminal to identify the problems that have led to the shutdown of nearly all Papua New Guinea's oil production.

An incident on 26 July led to the closure of oil loading at the Kumul terminal, and since then the operator Oil Search has been waiting on the weather to improve to allow a safe inspection of the platform, oil export pipeline and Calm Buoy.

Oil Search said today the vessel Rem Etive has arrived on location to start inspections. Any necessary repairs will then be done.

All oil production remains largely shut-in, added Oil Search, with current output about 5000 barrels per day.
