Ready for the drop: the Umoe Schat-Harding lifeboat

While Norway is barely ranked as a contender at the Olympics diving events, Umoe Schat Harding is claiming a new world record for the highest-ever lifeboat dive.

The Norwegian lifeboat contractor this week released its latest model, the FF1200, into the water from a new height of 60 metres to collect its self-awarded ‘gold medal’.  

The vessel was loaded with a weight of seven tonnes to simulate a fully laden boat as part of the certification test and its motor was started immediately on landing to test its manoeuvrability.
