Chimera Energy: Said Pemex has signed preliminary agreement on technology

Chimera Energy says it has signed a preliminary agreement with Pemex to use a technology that claims to be an 'alternative' to hydraulic fracturing.

The Texas-based start-up said its technology uses no water but rather heat to open up hard-to-reach oil and gas reservoirs, an approach which it claims will avoid adverse environmental impacts.

Water supplies, as well as contamination fears, have been a major concern by companies and environmentalists during the expansion of horizontal drilling in North America.

The "memorandum of understanding" applies to the use of the technology throughout Latin America, according to Chimera.
