US rig count drops by 17

Rig count: US loses 17

The number of rigs drilling in the US fell by 17 this week for a total of 1914, according to Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.

Rigs drilling for oil were down seven at 1425. Those drilling for gas slipped by 11 to total 484 -- yet another 13-year low.

Texas lost the most rigs this week with nine for a total of 902. New Mexico gained two for a total of 85.

North Dakota took a hit with six fewer rigs, bringing its total to 186. Montana gained a rig for 22 on the week.

Pennsylvania lost four for a total of 68, while West Virinia added one to total 28. Ohio gained one for 19.
