Lawsuit: Sierra Club sues California over Kern County drilling

The Sierra Club is suing the state of California, claiming government regulators approved an oil-drilling project in Kern County before completing an environmental review, according to a report.

The environmental group has asked the court to revoke approval for the project due to a violation of environmental law, The Bakersfield Californian reported.

The Sierra Club has accused regulators of granting an exemption to Century Exploration Resources that would allow the Kentucky-based driller to avoid a complete environmental review, the newspaper said.

A spokesman for the state Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources declined to comment on the lawsuit, the Associated Press reported.
