Drilling woes for Buru

Buru Energy permits: the Ungani North-1 well has been suspended due to damage caused to the drilling rig

Buru Energy has halted drilling on the Ungani North-1 well in Western Australia’s onshore Canning basin after a mechanical failure caused damage to the drilling rig.

The Australian explorer stated that during routine tripping operations for a new drill bit, a mechanical failure in Century rig 7’s drawworks had resulted in damage to the top drive, and potentially to other parts of the rig.

Buru said no injuries occurred as a result of the incident.

Drilling operations have currently been suspended while assessment of the damage is carried out on the rig, with particular attention to the top drive.

Depending on the results of the investigation, Buru said it was likely that the rig would be released.
