ABB racks up $360 million in Troll A contracts

Troll tie-up: ABB furthers business with Statoil and partners at world's biggest natural gas platform

Swiss power and automation technology giant ABB has won another order from Statoil for its Troll A platform in the Norwegian North Sea in a contract potentially worth up to $65 million.

The ABB contract includes pre-studies, cable laying and installation of 350 kilometres of high voltage AC and DC cables, as well as project management and related engineering services.

The AC cable will supply power to the safety and automation systems, while the DC cables will supply power to two new gas compressors.

ABB process automation chief Veli-Matti Reinikkala said the latest win meant ABB had sole responsibility for the complete electrical drive system powering the new gas compressors.

The company did not disclose a contract value for Monday’s win but said it had now booked a total of around $360 million…
