Awaiting new arrival: the Heidrun field in the Norwegian Sea

Samsung Heavy Industries has landed the $230 million contract to build a floating storage unit for Statoil for use in the Norwegian Sea.

The state-owned Norwegian oil major has also left two options for similar units at the South Korean shipbuilder.

The permanent FSU will be put to work on the Heidrun field, replacing the existing buoy loading system.

"The Heidrun field has been developed with a floating tension leg platform with a concrete hull and has been on stream since 1995," Statoil said on Thursday.

"Oil from the field has since the start been exported via a buoy loading system consisting of two buoys and purpose-built shuttle tankers. .
