Lukoil launches Romania seismic bid

Under surveillance: the Black Sea off Romania by Lukoil

Lukoil has kicked off a 3D seismic survey over a pair of blocks in Romania’s sector of the Black Sea to mark its exploration debut in the country.

French seismic contractor CGGVeritas has been contracted to perform the 2000-square kilometre shoot across the East Rapsodia and Trident blocks, which is due to be completed in November.

It is part of exploration work to be carried out on the blocks, in water depths of 90 to 1000 metres, by co-venturers Lukoil Overseas, the foreign operating subsidiary of the Russian privately-owned player, and Vanco International.

The pair were formally awarded the blocks last year, with Lukoil acting as operator with an 80% stake in the consortium and Vanco holding the remainder.
