Opportunities in Oman: Houston explorer hoping to tap new resource potential

Houston’s Frontier Resources has acquired a 100% interest in Oman’s Block 38 in a new exploration and production sharing agreement.

The US junior believes the block “contains an untested salt basin with exploration potentially analogous to the other proven salt basins of Oman”.

The explorer has inked a six-year, two-phase deal on the Mudayy Block, a 17,425-square kilometre area in the Dhofar region of southwest Oman close to Petroleum Development Oman’s producing Block 6.

Previously held by Phillips Petroleum, the southern Rub Al Khali Basin block has had only three wells drilled to date and Frontier Resources believes it has prospectivity that could replicate the success of the South Oman salt basin.
