Taqa makes Contender find

Taqa Bratani has struck an oil accumulation at a prospect well which was being drilled at a UK North Sea play.

The Abu Dhabi-led company made the discovery at the 211/21-N94 well, also known as the Contender prospect, in Block 211/22a, it said on Monday.

The well was being drilled from Taqa's North Cormorant platform to which future production is set to be directed.

The new field is expected to be developed as Cormorant East, Taqa added.

Taqa was targeting Jurassic Brent sandstones at the well. The oil accumulation which was encountered is expected to hold between 10 million and 30 million barrels of oil in place.
