Grill fires up Oz uni with $20m gift

John Grill may just have stepped aside as chief executive of WorleyParsons on Tuesday but the Australian has wasted no time in securing himself a seat at top table of a local university.

The oil & gas veteran has donated A$20 million (US$20.6 million) of his own cash to the University of Sydney to establish a new centre for project leadership aimed at tackling the management of large-scale projects in Australia and around the world.

The John Grill Centre for Project Leadership is to be an industry-oriented centre aimed at undertaking internationally competitive research to keep Australia at the forefront of executive education and thought leadership.

The A$20 million is the largest single gift ever given by a living Australian to a university in the country.
