Primed foraction: Seadrill semi-submersible West Hercules is being winterised for Barents drilling

Statoil is set to kick off drilling next month at a new Barents Sea prospect near its Skrugard discovery in the first probe of a nine-well campaign in the Arctic region.

The Nunatak well, to be drilled by Seadrill winterised semi-submersible West Hercules, will mark the start of a fresh exploration push in the Barents by the Norwegian player with chief financial officer Torgrim Reitan confirming on Friday it would be spudded in November.

That is ahead of an earlier reported date of December, while the company has also apparently added another probe to the original eight-well back-to-back campaign.
