Skarfjell appraisal 'in Wintershall sights'

Wintershall is reported to have lined up an appraisal at its Skarfjell discovery off Norway to be drilled early next year.

The German explorer plans to drill the 35/9-8 A&B probe, dubbed Skarfjell Appraisal North, in January using the semi-submersible Transocean Arctic, according to Oilinfo.no.

The well, to be drilled in Wintershall-operated production licence 418 in a water depth of 369 metres about two kilometres distant from the Skarfjell discovery, is targeting Intra Heather sandstone believed to contain similar oil characteristics to the Skarfjell and Grosbeak finds.

The explorer aims to kick off drilling in January, with the well estimated to take between 80 and 180 days.
