The Turkish government has fired another shot across the bows of Eni over its plans to explore for gas off Cyprus, warning it could hit the Italian energy giant’s investments in Turkey, according to a report.

Earlier this week, Cyprus said it would start talks with Eni, South Korea’s Kogas, Total of France and Russia’s Novatek over potential development of gas fields off the ethnically divided east Mediterranean island.

Eni and Kogas are making a joint bid for two of four offshore blocks lying south and south-east of the island in the vicinity of US explorer Noble Energy’s landmark Aphrodite gas discovery in Block 12 last year that is believed to hold resources of around 7 trillion cubic feet.
