Total takes Prosafe unit for Elgin

Total is lining up assets to begin production again at the leak-hit Elgin-Franklin field in the North Sea as it charters an accommodation unit from Prosafe.

The French supermajor has tied up the Safe Bristolia for a firm period of 173 days in a deal worth $53.9 million. That puts the dayrate at around $311,560.

On site operations are planned to begin on 1 May next year.

The Elgin platform was hit with a gas leak from the G4 well earlier this year. Total has recently said it expects to restart production before the end of the year. Partner BG said recently, however, that production would recommence in early 2013.
