Total makes Kazakh move

Total has made a significant move in Kazakhstan by farming into a pair of blocks in deals with Nurmunai Petrogas.

The French supermajor has snapped up a 75% stake in each of the onshore North and South blocks, taking operatorship with it.

The two blocks cover an area of approximately 14,500 square kilometers and are located in south-western Kazakhstan.

The transaction has already been approved by Kazakh authorities, the company said on Thursday. The move takes Total's upstream operations in the country beyond its Caspian Sea assets.

The French giant has also committed to drilling a well next year following the acquisition of seismic data.
