Court ruling: Indonesia's Constitutional Court has ordered oil and gas regulator BPMigas to be dismantled

Indonesia will look to set up a new unit to take up the duties of BPMigas after a court deemed the oil and gas regulator to be unconstitutional and ordered it to be dismantled.

The Jakarta Post has reported that Indonesia’s Constitutional Court declared on Tuesday the existence of BPMigas was unconstitutional because it degraded state control over natural resources.

According to the newspaper, the court’s panel of judges found the regulator did not directly manage oil and gas assets but instead handed them over to state controlled companies or private companies through cooperation contracts.
