US-based independent Anadarko Petroleum said today it completed a previously announced sale of its interest in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico Genghis Khan discovery to a neighboring BHP Billiton-led exploration venture.
The company sold its interest in the field to owners of the adjacent Shenzi field for $1.33 billion. There, BHP Billiton has 44% stake and operates Shenzi, while Hess Corp and Repsol YPF own the balance. Anadarko Petroleum’s wholly-owned Genghis Khan discovery located in the in Green Canyon Block 652 was put up for sale last year as part of an aggressive divestiture program to sell assets and pay down debt after it bought Kerr McGee and Western Gas last summer.
