Lukoil joy at Colombia pay day

By Upstream staff

Russian producer Lukoil has hit the jackpot at the Medina Block, in Colombia, logging 100 million barrels of oil, the company said today.

"This is the first discovery ever made by Russian oil men in the Western Hemisphere," the company said in a statement, without saying whether the reserves were probable or recoverable.

Medina is part of the bigger Condor deposit. Lukoil said it had already produced 4000 barrels of Vasconia crude from the Condor deposit and sold it to customers in North America.

Lukoil operates the Condor Block with a 70% stake, while Colombia's national company, Ecopetrol, holds the rest.
